Camped at 7,500 feet in Great Basin National Park. The park is a mountainous oasis in the middle of this giant, dry part of the country. My campsite in Great Basin NP felt more like Montana or Colorado than Nevada, with the sound of a mountain stream right outside my tent, evergreens like white fir, spruce and ponderosa pines, and snow-capped peaks over 13,000 feet.
Yesterday, at the cafe in the town of Baker, I meet Henry and Jim who are biking across the U.S. They met each other while riding across Nevada and decided to travel together for a week or two. Henry’s from Australia and Jim’s from northern California. Jim planned this exact trip when he was in high school and for some reason had to cancel. 42 years later, he’s doing it.
